I Should Have Done This Sooner!

Well I did it..I made the switch.Yesterday was my first Dr appt with the new Dr's group and can I just say
I LOVE THEM!!! Seriously I was in tears cause I was so relieved! I can't get over how kind the Dr I saw was. And she agrees with me that I need to be induced. She was explaining how the two hospitals now have a strict policy that no one is to be induced before 39 weeks. I pointed out that this being my 7th baby there is little hope of me making it that far. And Grace came so fast that I didn't have time for antibiotics and at the age of only 17 days old she had meningitis as a result. I pointed out that meningitis is life threatening. A baby born at 38 weeks is not.
Given the choice it's a no brainer. She said although the hospital won't allow her to admit me at 38 weeks for a induction she thinks the baby is at too great of a risk and so she would start it at her office to get the contractions going then I can be admitted. She thinks if the cervix is softened there are things we can do to get labor started. And control it. She calls it a soft admission.
What is the hospital thinking? I am not only a carrier of group b strep, I have a full blown outbreak throughout my body which most women do not, so if I don't get antibiotics in time, the baby is actually at risk of dying! So, I feel a HUGE weight is lifted. After seeing Grace go through 5 spinal taps, and the other horrible procedures, I was terrified it would happen again.
I should have switched Dr's months and months ago!
Thanks for the input my friends. I was so frustrated I was to the point of not wanting to go to another Dr again.
We're finally getting a little closer. About 7 weeks to go. I can do this. I can do this....

Yay! It sounds like a perfect match. I'm so glad you got a new doctor. Smart girl!

Hey, I was wondering why my recipe blog wasn't on your favorite cooking websites??? I've got over 100 super easy recipes on it. I think if I tried harder, it might become one of your favorites.

I'm sooo glad you got in with a better Dr. who is listening to you. I understand how frustrating it becomes when you have to listen to somebody who does not listen to you. Good for you! I'm glad you changed and it looks like everything will be fine. =)

woohoo!! that's so great, and even better since the doc is taking your worries and working with them, so this baby will healthy right from start. kinda weird about the no induction before 39 weeks since 37 is full term, but hey you have one less stress to worry about!!!

This is so fabulous Lauri. Having the right Doc that cares about you as a person and not just another number makes the biggest difference.

I did not realize that Grace had gone through all of that. I am so sorry.

IT looks like a healthy baby is on its way!!

I am so glad you didn't give up! I knew you could find the right doc for you. Soft admissions are wonderful. I have seen great results from them. Stupid hospitals, the only reason they refuse inductions is they are afraid of malpractice, they prefer c-sections. (C-sections are almost lawsuit proof) There are too many medical reasons to still allow inductions

I am so glad you finally changed! I know we have talked about it a few times now. Nobody needs to put up with that crap. What hospitals refuse to induce? Because I was induced 4 weeks early just8 months ago. I am pretty sure they will still do it when it is in the best interest of the mother and child. Which for you, it clearly is. Warning: With Mitchell I was on the induction list for ten days and the hospital wouldn't let me in. So my doc kind of got me started. He stretched my cervix open a little. It was my most painful labor. It hurt so bad. And my contractions came one right after the other. It was the only time I actually screamed during labor even though I knew it wouldn't help. It happened so fast I was dilated to an 8 before my epidural was in. All in all though, it may have been worth it. Just get that epi STAT!

Yeah!! As for Sherri's comments on fast labor, mine wasn't induced and it was super quick. It sucked not having and epidural, but it went so quick I can hardly remember. ;) I recovered way quicker, too. Good luck with it.

BTW - I stole your picture!! I love it! Sorry. I am a loser.

that's so great you found a new and better dr!! I think those blanket rules are stupid. Every woman and pregnancy and labor is different and to NEVER allow it is just poop.
